GeraWitness in Ghana 2026 — Tamper-Evident Records for Land, Courts, and Journalists
Published 21 April 2026 · 8 min read
What GeraWitness does
GeraWitness creates a cryptographic fingerprint of any file or photo and anchors it to a public, tamper-evident ledger along with timestamp and a signed attestation. You can later prove that the file existed in that exact form at that exact time. It does not store the file itself — it stores the proof. Combined with signed metadata (device, location, witness identity), this creates a court-admissible digital record.
Regulation: Electronic Transactions Act, Evidence Act, DPA
The Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) recognises electronic records and digital signatures as admissible evidence in Ghana. The Evidence Act, 1975 (NRCD 323) governs admissibility; GeraWitness receipts are typically admitted once their integrity is demonstrated by expert testimony or by judicial notice of the cryptographic method. Personal data on witness attestations is handled under the Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843) and DPC registration.

Works offline-first
Captures can be batched on the device (important in rural Tamale / Upper East where connectivity is patchy) and sync when network returns. The time of capture is cryptographically signed on the device and then re-anchored when the server confirms.
West Africa and ECOWAS angle
Under ECOWAS judicial cooperation frameworks and AfCFTA dispute-resolution provisions, GeraWitness receipts are increasingly recognised cross-border. Ghanaian traders, Ivorian cocoa brokers, and Nigerian lawyers use the same receipt format. For matters litigated in London or Paris, the same receipt is independently verifiable via our public ledger.
How GeraWitness compares in Ghana
Signed PDFs via traditional notaries remain common for high-stakes deeds; GeraWitness complements rather than replaces them. For the vast class of digital-evidence needs that never make it to a notary, GeraWitness gives you 95% of the evidentiary weight at 1% of the cost.
